You may be familiar with the reason I became a chiropractor: I was inspired by my mother’s transformation from suffering with debilitating headaches almost daily to becoming headache free with chiropractic care. I tell the story in this video which now has over 10,000 views.
Not only was she suffering with headaches, but the treatment she was receiving from doctors was making her worse, forcing her to be hospitalized twice for health issues.
Headaches inspired me to be a chiropractor.
When I graduated from chiropractic school I was determined to help people with headaches. Then, not long after opening in 2000, the first patient came in with debilitating headaches. She was in her fifties and like my mother, had been suffering for decades.
When the patient returned for her second visit, a remarkable thing happened. She was ecstatic because her headaches disappeared. I was expecting to spend years perfecting methods to help headaches. That day, I discovered that all I needed to do was check the spine for subluxations and adjust it, and sometimes provide attention to the soft-tissues and cranium.
We finished our initial series of visits and with wellness care, years later, the headaches never returned.
What’s your go-to remedy for headaches?
We are constantly bombarded by advertising for headache relievers. These treatments (aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen) are the reason my mother ended up hospitalized twice.
The cheeky pill commercials claim that they “get to the source” but in reality they pummel the body with side-effects. If my mother hadn’t made the bold choice to choose a chiropractor, by her account, she would have been dead by sixty.
I am happy to say she is 93 years old and takes no medication.
The Headache-Free and Drug-Free Culture
Our society is growing more dependent on pharmaceuticals. Research has shown that chiropractic care reduces pharmaceutical use by over 80 percent and reduces costs by half. Instead of covering chiropractic care, the government is now providing more coverage for pharmaceuticals. Does that make sense to you?
In the video I talk about a new culture. The new culture is a post-pharmaceutical one. It is a culture where pharmaceuticals are a last-resort after using the natural methods of enhancing your own body’s ability to heal itself with chiropractic care.
This culture isn’t for everybody, but it is certainly for me, It was for my mother, and it can be for you.
Better Health, Better for your neighbours
Your health is the most important thing, and when you choose to improve the function of the body with chiropractic care, you choose better health, better performance and more savings in the long-run.
In the 1990’s, a researcher named Pran Manga published The Manga Report which detailed how the government would save billions (in today’s dollars) if they provide chiropractic care for everyone.
I know that your health doesn’t have a dollar value. It is more important than that. This study and many after it revealed that people would be healthier and Canadians would pay less for this system of health care if it included chiropractors.
Unfortunately that is not the case, but it shouldn’t matter if the government doesn’t pay for your care. What matters is that you are healthier and you don’t have chronic disease and debilitating problems.
If you fast-forward to when you are in your eighties and nineties and taking a shoebox filled with pills and suffering from several chronic diseases will you be thinking “Thank God I didn’t spend that $700 per year to get adjusted once per month?”
How does the adjustment work for headaches?
“Have you more faith in a spoonful of medicine than in the power that animates the living world?”
— B. J. Palmer
B.J. Palmer is the son of D.D. Palmer, originator of chiropractic. B.J. Palmer is the charismatic genius who made chiropractic explode with popularity in the early to mid 1900’s.
His famous quote is a question that we all should ask ourselves and should listen closely to the answer that echoes automatically in our minds.
The power that animates the living world is life. Without life, the medicine does not work. Medicine has it’s place, but it’s place cannot replace the value of life.
Medicine helps when we have a significant problem we can’t fix. We need it when we can’t change our lifestyle or diet. Medicine would help if we got hit by a truck (at least temporarily). We need it when we have issues that we can’t otherwise solve. Almost all headaches can get better without medication if we address the REAL underlying issue: the flow of life in your body.
The expression of life is the opposite end of the spectrum. It is always important.
The name Una Vita means “One Life,” not half a life, or ninety percent of a life. It means having one hundred percent of your life naturally by improving the flow of life throughout your body.
