NewPort Village Chiropractic was founded in 2000 by Dr. Gary Barone and served the Port Moody community from the heart of NewPort Village for 26 years. The clinic provided family, sports, pregnancy and paediatric chiropractic care, helping active individuals and families improve their health, mobility, and quality of life through personalized chiropractic care. In addition to chiropractic services, the clinic offered class 4 laser therapy and custom orthotics to support recovery, performance and long-term wellness.

Dr. Gary served as secretary of the NewPort Village Merchants Association, and was webmaster for the NewPort Village Website, making him a key member of the NewPort Village Community. He was also on the organizing committee for the annual Festa Italiana which attracted thousands of people.

The original NewPort Village Chiropractic Logo was a letter script of the title written in an old-fashioned font called “Mural Script.” It was often shown next to the chiropractic caduceus (a winged man).

In 2016, the office moved from a 600 square foot unit (222 Newport Drive) in NewPort Village to a 1100 square-foot (274 Newport Drive). This additional space helped to double patient capacity and provide more space for parents with strollers, as well as space for an x-ray machine.

About Re-naming to Una Vita Chiropractic

In 2018, the clinic re-branded to Una Vita Chiropractic. Prior to renaming, a casual poll in 2014, showed most patients did not know the name of the clinic. In fact, the office was often erroneously referred to as NewPort Medical (which was just down the street). The re-brand was intended to give more personality and uniqueness to the practice, while inspiring the chiropractic lifestyle.

The re-brand included a new logo that was conceived in 2015 showing two hands with a form the front view of a spine in the negative space. Dr. Barone came up with this idea while talking to a patient with his hands gesturing, and he noticed the spine shape appear. A graphic designer created a two-dimensional drawing of two hands. The 2d image was then wrapped around a sphere. This created the original version of the current logo. It was later flattened to give it a more modern look and make it easier to print.

The name Una Vita is Italian (or Latin) derived from the English words “One Life.” The original name implies that life is precious and we need to take care of it. During the design phase, Dr. Barone’s mother kept referring “to the office “One Life” in Italian as “Una Vita” and after a few weeks the name stuck.

Moving to Coquitlam

After 26 years in NewPort Village, Una Vita Chiropractic moved five minutes east to Coquitlam to continue providing the same patient-centred care that families in the Tri-Cities had come to trust. The relocation provided better access for more families that are currently under care. This means 80% of families under care can reach the office in under 10-minutes, compared to the current 65%. It is a positive adaptation that will provide patients with a much better experience, more privacy, and much better views. In addition, moving to this space will provide more rental stability so Una Vita can continue to serve the Tri-Cities for many years to come.
